Permits in Sudan: What
You Need to Know

If your film is a fully locally-sourced shoot, we, as your fixer, will organise a general permit to allow you to film. You will need to give us complete production details with:
- Cast & crew information
- A shooting schedule
- Location particulars
- All equipment with serial numbers
Media accreditation is also required, and takes around one month to come through. To get it, you must first have a “Letter of No Objection.”
Timing Your Sudan Film Production around the Weather

Most of North Sudan is covered by the Sahara Desert, and therefore, the climate is hot and dry throughout the year. The heat here, and in South Sudan, is more manageable in December, January, and February. In the south, there are more savanna areas with grasslands and shrubs, and short rainy seasons from June to September.
Planning Filming Equipment Rental & Local Crew Logistics
You will be able to rent basic filming gear in Sudan, which will be much cheaper than rental fees in Western Europe and the USA. But if your production requires the use of more up-to-date technical equipment, you may need to ship that in. Tell us what gear you need, and we can organize the import and what gear you can get locally.

English-speaking professionals might be harder to find in Sudan. However we have collaborated with experienced professionals in the past and can get you in touch with them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it an ATA carnet country?
No, it is not an ATA Country. You will need to pay duties on all equipment brought in for filming.
Is it safe for me and my team to film there?
North Sudan is extremely dangerous, and filming there is not advised. Conflict can break out in parts of South too, however. Keep an eye on the news so you are informed of a surge in conflict before you arrive.
Do I need a visa or a work visa to film there?
Yes, you will need a work or tourist visa, depending on which country you are coming from and for how long. This is in tandem with your media accreditation.
Do I need a local company to film or get visas there?
You will need a local film fixer to help you organize your permits and other general production needs.
Do I need a permit for drones?
Yes, you need a permit for your drone. You can’t take your own drone with you to Sudan, but you might be able to hire a local drone operator with their own gear.
Is there a cash rebate/tax exemption or any other fiscal advantage?
There are no tax incentives available for foreign filmmakers.
Can I shoot in a national park and, if so, under what circumstances?
Filming in the national parks of Sudan comes with safety issues. So, while it is possible, you will have to check with the interior ministry.
